How are people transformed through their relationships with others?

How are people transformed through their relationships with others?

In the short story, Brother Dear, Greg and his father have a stubborn relationship. Greg decided he doesn't want to attend university anymore, and explore himself by living life the way he wants to. Greg's father wants Greg to attend school and have a good job and be successful. Greg's father was beyond disappointed in him for not doing what he wanted. Greg decided to drop out and plant trees. Greg is an individual and is tired of living through his father. Throughout Greg's life his father has made him realize that he wanted to be different. Greg also set an example for his little sister, who wants to follow in the daring footsteps of her brother. Through my short life I have decided that I am going to live for myself and nobody else. I think it is more important to be happy than anything else.

A&P

This image represents the girls that were shopping in the A&P store wearing bikinis. The manager of the A&P was disturbed by them wearing bikinis and told them they weren't allowed in the store wearing them. The girls were very embarrassed and Lengel, the cashier, stood up for the girls. He even went to the extent of quitting his job. He expected the girls would appreciate him, but when he went outside, they had already left. Lengel was left heartbroken and jobless. I have stood up for people without recognition, and it is really not a good feeling, especially when you lose in the end.

Brother Dear Response

In the short story, Brother  Dear, I am most relative to Greg. Greg and I are both very stubborn in that we do what we think is best for ourselves. He disobeyed his father's orders and did not go back to University. Instead he went to plant trees. His father thought this was stupid and did not accept it. Greg did it because he wanted to enjoy his life, not try to live up to his father's standards. I feel the same way about my life. If I do not enjoy it, why do it? I live my life for now, instead of the future, because life is short and who knows what could happen? I'd rather feel happy doing what I want, instead of trying to fill the shoes of somebody else so my father will approve. Unlike myself, Greg has a sister, Charlene. I am an only child. Greg has a strong relationship with Charlene. They talk about their problems, and help each other out. Most important of all, they understand each other. Charlene, as unsuccessful as Greg is, is very jealous of his bravery. She someday wishes she was as brave as he, to live her life the way she wants to.
